Friday, May 7th, 2010
Megan Jimenez, 15, has been involved in gymnastics since the age of three and spent 10 years training at Southern California Elite Gymnastic Academy in Temecula.
Jimenez made the decision to leave her lifelong gym in October 2008 to train under Trent and Jill Spaulding at Precision Gymnastics in Rancho Cucamonga.
Jimenez trains 36 hours a week on top of her full school schedule.
She attends Temecula Valley High School and carries a full load while still maintaining a 3.8 GPA. She is on an early release schedule from school leaving at 1:00 p.m. every day allowing her to train until 8 or 9 p.m. daily.
The Jimenez family has lived in Temecula for 14 years.
Megan has a 16-year-old brother Evan, a sophomore who also attends Temecula Valley High School. She also has an 8-year-old brother Elan who attends Paloma Elementary School.
Although Megan does not compete on her high school team (as there is no high school gymnastics team at her school), she competes at the Junior Olympic level consisting of levels 1-10 with level 10 being the highest level of competition.
She has been at level 10 since she was 12-years-old.
Megan has achieved many of her goals at this level by winning state and regional competitions and qualifying for the highest level of national competition three times.
Some of the highlights of her career so far were in 2009 she was the level 10 regional all-around champion, junior pre-elite in 2008 and she was a Junior Olympic national qualifier in 2007.
One of her current goals is to qualify for the international elite college scholarship.
She recently competed in the 2010 level 10 regional championships held in Long Beach where she became a three-time national qualifier by qualifying for the Junior Olympic national championships, to be held in Dallas on May 7.
In her winning season she became the 2010 all-around state champion for California. In that event she also won a gold medal on bars. She also became the vault champion with a gold medal in the regional championships.
In one of her most recent competitions on April 10, she competed in level 10 region 1 and finished sixth in the all-around, won the vault title and was fourth on uneven bars.
She is now beginning the recruitment process for a full-ride scholarship to a division one school.
